  6. This is file 1 of a 2-file set. You need pgs3h21.lha and pgs3h22.lha.

  8. PAGESTREAM 3.0h2
  9.  
  10. As many of you know, Soft-Logik released the TextFX extension last
  11. week with a new version of PageStream called 3.0h2. The reasons for
  12. this new version were:
  13.  
  14. 1. TextFX required a few programming hooks that weren't in 3.0h.
  15.  
  16. 2. 3.0i wasn't ready to go yet, but TextFX was done.
  17.  
  18. 3. We didn't want to hold TextFX back until 3.0i was done.
  19.  
  20.  
  21. We know that calling it 3.0h2 is a bit confusing. We chose this
  22. instead of calling it 3.0i because:
  23.  
  24. 1. We had already said the next version would be 3.0i and would
  25. include specific features. Calling this version 3.0i and the next
  26. version 3.0j would confuse people.
  27.  
  28. 2. It's still better than PageStream95. ;-)
  29.  
  30. 3. We don't like the letter 'j' and wanted to stop before we ran out
  31. of letters.
  32.  
  33.  
  34. Our intention was to release 3.0h2 with TextFX orders only. We
  35. decided to keep 3.0h as the current shipping version. Then we
  36. realized:
  37.  
  38. 1. 3.0h2 is much better than 3.0h. It seemed silly to keep shipping
  39. 3.0h when we could ship a better version that was release-able.
  40.  
  41. 2. Somebody would post online that they had 3.0h2 and the rest of
  42. you didn't. Villagers would be at the gate throwing stones within
  43. the hour.
  44.  
  45.  
  46. Then a few villagers gathered outside of the gate and started
  47. boiling water. They chanted "give us a patch, give us a patch..."
  48. Another group of villagers stood beside them holding pitchforks, and
  49. chanting "patches are evil, give us 3.1 now."
  50.  
  51. Forced between choosing boiling water or pitchforks, we decided to
  52. release 3.0h2 as a patch. (Actually, if the truth is to be told, we
  53. let our GEnie and CompuServe users vote on whether they wanted 3.0h2
  54. released online. Most wanted a patch, thus we've uploaded a patch.)
  55.  
  56. v3.0i isn't that far off. If you want to skip this version, go
  57. ahead. There will be a direct 3.0h to 3.0i patch as well as the
  58. 3.0h2 to 3.0i patch. But typing is much more comfortable in this
  59. version, so if you use PageStream a lot, I recommend getting 3.0h2.
  60.  
  61. The patch filenames are PGS3H21.LHA and PGS3H22.LHA. You must have
  62. 3.0h installed on your hard drive and you must download both files.
  63. The files are already on the Soft-Logik BBS (314-256-8971), and are
  64. on Genie and CompuServe. They will be on Portal and Aminet soon.

  67. CHANGES FROM 3.0h TO 3.0h2
  68.  
  69. TEXT:
  70. - Implemented buffered typing for greater speed!
  71. - Implemented Undo for most text operations! Note that Undo typing
  72.   will not undo typing to the last non-typing change, as in most
  73.   programs. It will undo the last block of typed characters. This
  74.   will change in a future version.
  75. - Implemented the Character Set gadget for importing and exporting
  76.   ASCII text. Added a Windows character set option to the popup.
  77. - Fixed clicking at the end of the last line in an article which
  78.   caused the attributes to revert to the default.
  79. - Fixed the problem with phony 'cursors' appearing on blank lines
  80.   and at ends of lines when drag selecting text.
  81. - Fixed the redraw problem with backspacing in kerned or tracked
  82.   text. (Parts of letters were not erased.)
  83. - Fixed the redraw problem with moving kerned or tracked frameless
  84.   text objects. (Parts of the rightmost character were not erased.)
  85. - Corrected cursor placement with tabs. It will now place the cursor
  86.   on the side of the tab you click on, instead of always on the
  87.   right.
  88. - Fixed the use of multiple tabs when custom tab stops had not been
  89.   created.
  90. - Fixed scaling of PostScript ABF screen fonts. (They were not being
  91.   scaled to match the type size.)
  92. - Fixed the rotation of Soft-Logik bitmap fonts. They are no longer
  93.   offset incorrectly, and they're faster now too. PostScript bitmap
  94.   fonts no longer get offset incorrectly, but they may still scale
  95.   incorrectly.
  96. - Fixed move to end of line (Shift Right Arrow) when the line was
  97.   ended with a New Line instead of a New Paragraph.
  98. - Fixed the leading grid option. It still uses global preferences
  99.   instead of document preferences, but no longer causes crashes.
  100. - Fixed the cursor position problem on lines with manual kerning.
  101. - Fixed the problem with the Ok gadget not unghosting in the Manual
  102.   Kern requester.
  103. - Corrected the icons for tabs to match other programs. The left and
  104.   right icons were backwards from the standard set by others.
  105. - Fixed the undesirable snapping of tabs to the nearest 1/16th of an
  106.   inch when they were selected in the Tabs requester.
  107. - Adjusted text highlighting for kerned and tracked text, so that it
  108.   now highlights text in a visually correct manner, even though it
  109.   was technically correct before.
  110. - Fixed the monospaced tracking problem with the narrowest character
  111.   in a font not being monospaced.
  112. - The Line/Fill button in the toolbar now works for text when the
  113.   Text tool is selected.
  114. - Added a Ctrl C mnemonic for unicode 8216 (quote single left): 'l
  115. - Added a better Ctrl C mnemonic for unicode 8217 (quote single
  116.   right): 'r  (You can still use the old mnemonic listed in the
  117.   manual.)
  118.  
  119. OBJECT MANIPULATION:
  120. - Increased the speed of the Group command by approximately 1000%.
  121. - Implemented external drawing objects.
  122. - Line/Fill attributes can no longer be applied to groups. (In prior
  123.   versions, they were applied to the group's bounding box. In the
  124.   future we plan to allow Line/Fill attributes applied to groups to
  125.   be applied to the group's subobjects, as in v2.2, but for now, it
  126.   is simply disabled to avoid confusion.)
  127. - Changed the way drawings and compound objects work, so that
  128.   attributes such as rotation are applied to the object, not to its
  129.   subobjects. This makes it considerably faster, and allows external
  130.   drawings to be rotated and scaled without affecting the external
  131.   file.
  132. - Fixed the problem with outlines for rotated drawing objects.
  133. - Undo resizing of a frameless text object now works as expected.
  134. - Fixed resizing of paths end over end. The width and height remain
  135.   positive now.
  136. - Fixed the crash bug with 0 copies and Transform. It now works as
  137.   documented in the manual.
  138. - Fixed Distribute so that it no longer takes the line thickness
  139.   into account when calculating the bounding box.
  140. - Fixed Distribute so that Left/Center Right distribution place all
  141.   objects inside the bounding box.
  142. - Added more busy pointers when applicable for object manipulation.
  143.  
  144. POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  145. - Fixed the problem with printing DMF (and some other fonts) to
  146.   PostScript level 1 printers.
  147. - If you couldn't get special characters to print on your PostScript
  148.   printer, they should print now. A number of PPD files for popular
  149.   printers are lacking two mandatory parameters. PageStream will now
  150.   default to the most likely value if the parameters are missing.
  151. - Monospaced tracking now prints correctly.
  152. - Fixed printing of compound objects. (ProDraw and ProPage files use
  153.   compound objects.)
  154. - Fixed printing of gradient filled text shadows. Note that shape
  155.   filled shadows will print as solid at this time.
  156. - EPS files printed to disk no longer have an EOF, even if "Include
  157.   EOF" is on. The EOF caused problems when PageStream3 generated EPS
  158.   files were printed from some PC and Mac programs such as XPress
  159.   and PageMaker.
  160.  
  161. NON-POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  162. - Fixed printing of gradient fills with landscape orientation.
  163.  
  164. OPEN/SAVE/IMPORT/EXPORT:
  165. - Increased the speed of importing drawings by approximately 1000%.
  166. - Increased the speed of loading documents with drawings by
  167.   approximately 1000% for the portion of the load time related to
  168.   the drawings.
  169. - Fixed the crash problem when saving files with names longer than
  170.   30 characters.
  171. - Fixed the problem with Black coming in as Black.1 from Art
  172.   Expression EPS files.
  173. - Fixed the problem with documents being saved in the wrong
  174.   directory.
  175. - Fixed the paragraph spacing problem when opening ProPage
  176.   documents.
  177. - Improved the speed of loading and saving IFF ILBM and PCX
  178.   pictures.
  179. - Made the TIFF filter import files with extra Photoshop channels.
  180.   The channels will be ignored, but the files can now be imported.
  181.  
  182. MISCELLANEOUS:
  183. - When you place the insertion point and then choose the Object
  184.   tool, the text object will now be selected instead of the
  185.   previously selected object. It now works the same as PageStream2.
  186. - Fixed the annoying problem with rounding errors when scrolling
  187.   the screen. (Parts of the screen would appear 1 or 2 pixels off.)
  188. - Fixed the problem with creating more than 10 documents, chapters,
  189.   master pages or colors all based on the same name. ie, untitled.1,
  190.   untitled.2..., in which the numbering went from .10 to .111 to
  191.   unusual numbers. This could potentially crash the program, and
  192.   was most noticeable in importing ProDraw Clips.
  193. - Fixed the minor problem with small black lines appearing next
  194.   to the vertical scroll bar when using the scroll arrow gadgets.
  195. - Added a fractional delay when changing screen modes with the
  196.   Settings/Screen command, to ensure that the PageStream3 screen is
  197.   shut down before a new one is created. (If the new one was created
  198.   before the former is shut down, the second one had to be called
  199.   PageStream3.1, which conflicted with some ARexx scripts.)
  200. - The Insert Page, Delete Page and Move Page commands are now
  201.   ghosted when you're viewing a master page, because they are not
  202.   applicable to this type of page.
  203. - Fixed a keyboard shortcut conflict in the Insert Date requester.
  204. - Opening a new document in a non-English version of PageStream3
  205.   will now use the localized name for the term "View" in the
  206.   document window titlebar.
  207. - Deleted the Type/Weight command because it was redundant.
  208. - Removed embossing from ruler sub-unit tick marks. This will
  209.   reduce flicker for people with non-flicker free displays, and
  210.   even fractionally speeds up redraws, without detracting from
  211.   the appearance of the rulers.
  212. - Implemented localized unqualified menu shortcuts. (This means that
  213.   the keyboard shortcuts should now be correct for the Object menu
  214.   in the German version of PageStream3.)
  215. - Made it impossible to use Ctrl shorcuts for grayed out Type menu
  216.   commands.
  217. - Printer drivers now use AmigaDOS system alerts rather than custom
  218.   alert requesters.
  219.  
  220. SEND TO EDITOR:
  221. - Fixed the problem with > signs coming back from the editor as >>.
  222. - Double dashes will now come back as en dashes, and triple dashes
  223.   as em dashes. Typewriter quotation marks will still not be
  224.   converted to typographic quotation marks because this may be
  225.   disconcerting to some people.
  226.  
  227. MACRO SCRIPTS:
  228. - Implemented the Print Signature macro script. Note that it works
  229.   differently than documented on page 316 of the manual. Refer to
  230.   the help system for details. (Note that it does not yet work with
  231.   automatic page numbering; you must number pages manually.)
  232. - Implemented the Find OverSet Text macro script. Note that it
  233.   displays the first page it finds with overset text. You should
  234.   correct the text and then run the macro again. It will alert you
  235.   when there is no overset text.
  236. - Added a new Insert Signature Block macro. This lets you append
  237.   your signature block to the end of your letters. The first time
  238.   you use it, it will ask you to create your signature block.
  239. - Rewrote the Automatic Text Frame macro script. It now takes an
  240.   argument of DEFAULT which will create the new frame with the
  241.   master page's margin and column guide values, rather than using
  242.   the size of the current frame. The default PageStream3.macros
  243.   file's Macros menu command works the same as before, and F4 is
  244.   assigned to execute it with the DEFAULT argument. This is useful
  245.   if the current frame doesn't match the next page's frame. i.e.,
  246.   the first page is a cover sheet, and if you need a second page,
  247.   you'd rather not leave room for a letterhead.
  248. - Corrected the Open Template macro data for Avery labels size 5196.
  249.  
  250. MACROS:
  251. - Fixed the problem with recording some import/export operations.
  252. - New commands: GETSCREENDPI, GETSELECTEDOBJECTS, GETARTICLEOVERSET,
  253.   GETARTICLEIDS.
  254. - New parameters: GETCURSOR, GETOBJECT, GETCHAPTERS, CREATECOLUMNS.
  255. - New parameters: EDITTEXTOBJ (requires TextFX extension)
  256. - Increased the speed of the MAKECOMPOUND command by approximately
  257.   1000%.
  258. - GETARTICLE FRAMES now starts numbering from 0 rather than 1, to
  259.   maintain consistency with other commands.
  260. - Fixed the ARTICLEID parameter in all applicable commands.
  261. - You can now pass arguments to external scripts when executing them
  262.   from an internal macro. Syntax: RX "script arg1 arg2..."
  263.  
  264. PAGELINER:
  265. - Added a missing Settings/Help command to access its help system.
  266. - Added Right Amiga I as a short cut for Project/Insert.
  267.  
  268. BME:
  269. - Dramatically increased the speed of painting.
  270. - Fixed the problem with recording the setting of the brush size.
  271. - No longers displays a busy pointer after each macro paint action.
  272. - Fixed the problem with black and white being reversed when
  273.   converting a B&W picture to color.
  274. - Fixed a potential crash problem when cancelling Convert, or when
  275.   converting to the same type and depth.
  276. - New ARexx command: GETSCREENDPI.
  277.  
  278. WORDWORTH DOCUMENT FILTER:
  279. - This filter is sold separately, but if you own it and have it
  280.   installed, this patch will update it to the latest version.
  281. - Fixed the problem with landscape documents opening as portrait.
  282. - Fixed the problem with out of order tabs. (PageStream expects tabs
  283.   to be sorted, whereas Wordworth saves them in the order they were
  284.   created.)
  285. - Fixed the problem with non-filled tabs being imported as tabs
  286.   filled with spaces.
  287.  
  288. TRUETYPE FONT ENGINE:
  289. - This engine is sold separately, but if you own it and have it
  290.   installed, this patch will update it to the latest version.
  291. - Updated for compatibility with the new TextFX extension.
